At Ideal Daycare & After School Care, our mission is to provide high-quality care that is an extension of your family and a "second home" for your child. We believe every child deserves to grow in an atmosphere of trust, respect, diversity, safety, and friendship. To maintain this healthy and nurturing environment, we have a strict Anti-Bullying Policy and Procedure to ensure our centre remains a safe space for all children.

Understanding Bullying: What Parents Should Know

We define bullying as any behaviour that is emotional, physical, racist, verbal, psychological, sexual, or cyber in nature. Our licensed daycare in Millwoods South does not tolerate or support any form of bullying, and we categorize it into four primary areas to help our educators identify and address it immediately:

  1. ** Verbal Bullying:** The use of negative words, such as insults, name-calling, teasing, or put-downs, to gain power over others.
  2. Emotional Bullying: Deliberately ignoring or being unkind to others in a group, such as forcing someone into isolation.
  3. Physical Bullying: Any violent activity that hurts someone physically, including hitting, biting, punching, or damaging a child's personal belongings or toys.
  4. Psychological Bullying: Words or actions specifically intended to cause psychological harm.

Our Proactive Anti-Bullying Strategy

When looking for quality childcare in Edmonton, parents want to know how conflicts are handled. At Ideal Daycare, we empower children to report any kind of bullying to their room teacher immediately. Our educators are trained to give children the time they need to explain the issue in their own words so we can understand the full context.

If we realize that bullying has occurred, we implement our Conflict Resolution Policy to find a fair and positive outcome. This process involves steps like "talking it out," "making a deal," and encouraging children to use their brains rather than their hands to solve problems. Our staff also monitor the children long after incidents are resolved to guarantee no further issues occur.

Escalation and Parental Involvement

We believe that open communication with families is essential for social-emotional development in Edmonton daycare settings. When a bullying incident occurs:

  1. Notifications: The director or room staff will notify the parents of all children involved.
  2. Written Warning: If the bullying persists, the director will issue a formal written notice to the parents of the child displaying the behaviour.
  3. Final Notice: If the behaviour does not change after a final notice, the daycare reserves the right to terminate care to protect the safety and self-esteem of other children in our program.

A Foundation of Positive Guidance

Bullying is listed alongside other unacceptable behaviours, such as racial comments or physical degradation, which we never permit. Our Alberta Government certified educators focus on positive role modelling and encouragement to help children learn valuable life skills. We never use physical punishment or any action that causes a child to lose their dignity or self-esteem.

By choosing government-approved childcare in Millwoods, you are choosing a program that takes a stand against bullying to ensure every child feels they belong.
